    UV Coatings

    Looking at the UV varnishes it is also impossible to estimate the total number of different applications.

    UV varnishes may be applied as clear coatings, matt coatings or pigmented coatings. We differentiate between

    • solvent free UV Coatings (so called 100% systems)
    • solvent based UV coatings
    • water based UV coatings
    • UV powder coatings (100% systems)

    Working with solvent or water based formulations we have to guarantee that surplus solvents and water have been completely removed before UV curing; otherwise the excellent properties of the coatings may be greatly reduced.

    UV varnishes can be applied on a substrate with different application processes. Here we list some of the usual processes:

    • various printing technologies
    • Curtain coating
    • Roller application
    • Spray application
    • Dipping
    • Flow coating
    • Bar coating

    Due to the fact that most UV varnishes are solvent free systems or contain only

    small amounts of solvent, the VOC (volatile organic compounds) regulations

    are not a problem for this class of formulations.
